Give Me That Mountain

God Is Bigger than Government

Fear Exposed. Day four...

During a minister's conference I attended a couple of years ago, I heard the harrowing testimony of a young man who, as a boy, was terrorized during the regime of Idi Amin. When he was five years old, the murderous dictator of Uganda had his entire family killed (except for one cousin). The boy eventually turned to a life of crime himself, but through God's grace now pastors a 4,000 member church in Uganda.

The Spirit of Fear Eats a Hole in Our Life

Fear Exposed. Day five...

When I was a boy on the farm, one of my jobs was to hold open the feed sacks while Dad filled them with grain. Every once in a while I would unknowingly grab a sack that the mice had messed with. And as Dad would fill that sack, my shoes and the cuffs of my jeans would fill up as well.

Misconceptions Concerning Satan

Fear Exposed. Day six...

Imagine more than 2 million people, sick of wandering around in a desert, who suddenly learn their Promised Land is truly a land flowing with milk and honey, but is overrun with an enemy that is seemingly invincible. Imagine the level of frustration present. And then imagine one dissenting voice trying to dispel the fear coming against them.

Understanding the Spirit of Fear

Fear Exposed. Day seven...

Our television doesn't get used much for entertainment. But when it is, Encore Westerns is usually the channel of choice. I always enjoy watching the bad guy die a slow and violent death at the hand of the good guy.

Fear As Propaganda

Fear Exposed. Day eight...

Psychological warfare has been a major component of war throughout history. In the 13th Century, the Monguls hurled severed human heads from catapults into enemy lines to spread both terror and disease. The invasion of Normandy was successful in large part due to both military deception and psychological warfare.

Propaganda Has Just Enough Truth to be Believable

Fear Exposed. Day nine...

A few months ago I visited the official website of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. I made some notes from what I read under the business section of the site. Three of the bullet points promoting the North Korean economy stood out to me as quite suspicious:

  • Stable. A government with solid security and very stable political system, without corruption.
  • Full diplomatic relations with most EU members and rest of countries.
  • Transparant legal work. Legal procedures, intellectual rights, patents and warranties for investors settled.

Deception in the Garden

Fear Exposed. Day ten...

He had no camera. He had no printing press, which would have done him no good since he had no paper. He had no pen and he had no ink. But he had a craftiness, a shrewdness, a slyness about him that was unmatched by any other creature. He was also loaded with bling—covered with precious stones that sparkled like fire.

The Fear of Missing Something

Fear Exposed. Day eleven...

God eliminates our need to be fearful by showing us what we have in Him. Satan, however, stirs up fear by getting us to wonder what we're missing out on by following after God.

From Hearing a Promise to Believing a Promise

Fear Exposed. Day thirteen...

The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father's family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:1–3 NLT)

God Can and Will Keep His Promises

Fear Exposed. Day fourteen...

Not all the promises God has given me have happened yet. And I have moments of anxiousness—not so much that I don't believe what God said, but that I just don't see how those promises “can” happen.

How Will This Be?

Fear Exposed. Day fifteen...

Guys are easily confused by the signals girls send. When I was in the sixth grade, I got a big Valentine's Day card and a sack of candy from a popular girl in the eighth grade. I was instantly in love. But I found out pretty quickly (if I'm remembering the details correctly) that the popular girls in the eighth had plotted together and had each picked a sixth‐grade boy as a Valentine's Day experiment—seeing what kind of trauma could be inflicted on an admiring heart.
