Righteousness From God’s Perspective

Understanding Identity. Day nineteen...

I watched a very entertaining movie about a master jewel thief last weekend. The thief was, of course, charming and his lover, of course, beautiful. After about two hours of action that was both funny and suspenseful, the hero and heroine gave up their life of crime to live happily ever after on stolen money.

Faith is the Medium of Exchange between God and Man

Understanding Identity. Day twenty...

As mentioned Friday, being right with God is not about what you do, or who you are. Being right with God is about Who you know.

Taking Control of Our Human Nature

Understanding Identity. Day twenty-one...

In the business world corporate takeovers sometimes occur when conflict in the marketplace exists. Think, for a moment, of your life as two corporations in the midst of a conflict. For years your human nature (your body and the baser nature of your soul [in red]) has been victimizing your spiritual nature (your spirit and the more noble nature of your soul [in green]) with bad business practices.

Making Spiritual Decisions

Understanding Identity. Day twenty-two...

A few months ago, after a Thursday night's class, I spent some time visiting with a young man who was obviously struggling mentally/emotionally. As I was praying for him I stopped briefly to ask him how he was doing. He looked at me and said, “Please keep praying. I'm seeing demons. They are showing me their teeth.” I told the demons to leave in Jesus' name.

Wanting What God Wants. Day two...

A few months ago, while Sherrel went into Walgreen's to buy a card, I sat in the car listening to the radio. The commercial I heard for a dating site made enough of an impression that I noted it when we got home.

Doing Life God’s Way May Not Be as Confining as We Think

Wanting What God Wants. Day three...

There was a man who had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, “Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.” And he divided his property between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. (Luke 15:11–13 ESV)

God Knows Better than We Do about Every Area of Our Life

Wanting What God Wants. Day four...

I live next to a golf course—half a block from the clubhouse. But I don't play. I don't play because it takes too long, costs too much… and mainly… because I'm bad at it. Being bad and also being highly competitive at the same time just takes all the fun out of the game.

Wanting What God Wants. Day six...

During my first year of college at the University of Kansas, I became friends with a guy who was totally city. He knew absolutely nothing about farm life, and would frequently ask me questions. One of his questions really stood out, though.

We Cooperate. God Does the Rest.

Wanting What God Wants. Day eight...

Back when I had employees, settling the disputes that came up was just a part of being in business. On one occasion an employee came to me complaining that another employee was nothing but a brown‐noser to the supervisors, and was always trying to please the boss (which interestingly enough was me, even though the young man who was doing the complaining there in my office didn't seem to make the connection).
