Give Me That Mountain

Yes and No…

Day one...

“Yes” and “no” should be considered a form of priceless currency. Your “yes” and your “no” have a buying power beyond anything you have ever considered.

Day two...

My prayer life was much simpler when I saw God as a vending machine. I put in a prayer and made a selection. If it came out, His answer was “Yes.” If it didn't come out, His answer was “No.” If I didn't know which selection I should make, but was hungry for something—anything—then I was okay with whatever He wanted to dispense. But I usually knew what I wanted, and always hoped He would answer with a “Yes.”

Day four...

As we begin to understand the goodness of God we will begin to be just as pleased with His “No” as we are with His “Yes.” We will not care so much how He answers our request, but that He does answer our request—however He wants to answer it.

Day five...

If you want to lose some weight, and you hear from friends about a nutritional supplement that aids in permanent weight loss, wouldn't you want to try it out? If you have trouble sleeping, and you hear from friends about a new kind of mattress that puts you out for the night, wouldn't you want to try it out? If you're usually ready to kill somebody by the time you get to work, and you hear from friends about a new recording artist whose latest CD brings on the calm, wouldn't you want to try it out?

Day six...

I remember when Sherrel and I visited with a young mother and her two children, while they were staying at a shelter for the homeless. Sherrel was there to help the distressed mother. My job was to keep the kids occupied. The young daughter was very calm and played quietly with her doll. The young son however, was completely out of control.

Day seven...

I've had this picture in my mind today of a frontier woman and her two small children sitting behind their cabin on a bluff overlooking a Colorado stream. On the blanket, which the mother had spread over the dirt, was a large picnic basket… and a rifle within easy reach. With one hand Mom would tenderly touch the faces of her children. But the other hand was never very far away from the rifle—just in case a rattlesnake or a mountain lion came calling.

Day eight...

At the present moment I don't have a tractor or a backhoe or a skid steer to use in the woods. So when I need to drag a dead tree out of the timber to my burn pile, I just hook on to the tree with my pickup and go. As long as the ground is half‐way dry and I don't hook a stump with the tree, I've been amazed at what I can pull with my truck in four‐wheel drive.

Day nine...

If you were a member of a royal family, would you preach for sixty years to people who didn't want to listen? If you came from such high social standing, would you be willing to make a point on God's behalf, by walking around for three of those years… completely naked?

I'll be the first to admit that Friday's article was hardly light reading. But some of you may be in a very real fight for your life, or for the life of someone you love. And you need to know that God is big enough and powerful enough to make any… any… any problem disintegrate under the weight of His promises.

Day one...

Close to twenty years ago probably, I had a couple of years of hell‐on‐earth. I felt like I was the rat in some kind of a weird experiment God was doing. One night I went to bed with the question on my mind: “Why was I even born, God? Why did You even make me?”
