Give Me That Mountain

Promises… Promises…

Day three...

Have folks ever made fun of you when you talked about how God had comforted you through a difficult situation? I have. It's as if God is no more than a mind game to them… just some game I play to try to defy reality.

Love Is…

Day three...

We have certain expectations from those who claim to love us: Children expect their parents to provide them with food, clothing, and shelter. Husbands expect physical intimacy from their wives. Wives expect protection from their husbands. Friends expect what is shared in confidence to be kept in confidence. If you have healthy relationships with lots of people, your list of expectations will be long. If you have mostly unhealthy relationships, your list will be short.

Hearing from God

Day six...

Were you ever on a debate team? I debated some in high school, but it wasn't really a good idea for me. My conversations with other people were already too much like debates, and I didn't need any more encouragement to argue my opinions.

Changing Position

Day three...

Are you willing to consider you might have more control over your life than you think? Do you believe you could be in control of the situation if you were… say… imprisoned in North Korea?

Changing Position

Day four...

Are you sensing an aggression rising up on the inside? If you are just itching to say “No you don't, in Jesus' name!” to something trying to pin you against the wall, then you are in a good place. But it's not what we say that counts. It's the position we take. And to understand our position, we need to better understand Jesus' position as He walked this earth.

Only for the Super Saints

Do you sometimes disqualify yourself where spiritual matters are concerned? Do you think things like: “I'll never understand the Bible like my pastor does. I don't have the ‘gift’ of healing. I could never witness to someone.” We often believe that stuff is only for the “super saints.” I certainly had these thoughts for many years.

The Work We Do

Day thirteen...

Are we Christians hated by the world for the label we wear or the work we do? If we are going to be hated shouldn't it be because of the work we do? I'm going to step right into it by asking a very pointed question: “Why do we bother with the label at all? Why do we even want to label ourselves as Christians?”

Goodness Gracious…

Day four...

Whenever I was sick, Mom always took me into town to see Doctor Woods. I had some major flinching going on as his nurse dropped my drawers and swabbed my butt with alcohol. The needle she used was surely long enough to go clear through and come out the other side.

Day five...

Before our class last Tuesday night, I noticed Ronnie was limping around. I hadn't seen him in a while and asked him what was going on. He told me that because he'd been favoring his big toe he had thrown his leg out of whack.

Yes and No…

Day two...

My prayer life was much simpler when I saw God as a vending machine. I put in a prayer and made a selection. If it came out, His answer was “Yes.” If it didn't come out, His answer was “No.” If I didn't know which selection I should make, but was hungry for something—anything—then I was okay with whatever He wanted to dispense. But I usually knew what I wanted, and always hoped He would answer with a “Yes.”
