A Control Issue
A Change of Mind. Day fourteen...
Do you happen to be an adrenaline junkie? A few months ago, as I was getting a haircut, the barber next to us didn't have anyone in her chair at the time. She joined in the conversation as I was describing my very brief (as in about four seconds) career as a bull rider. I found out that she was truly an adrenaline junkie.
Thought Ahead of Action
A Change of Mind. Day fifteen...
When it comes to any one of the foolish things of man, if I haven't done it, I've probably thought about doing it. But alcohol is one temptation that's never affected me. Alcohol, however, has been a big problem for some of those in the classes I teach, and I've wanted to better understand the journey from sober to drunk.
Getting Rid of Excuses
A Change of Mind. Day forty-four...
My youngest son graduated from his rural K‐8 elementary school with almost perfect grades. But when he brought home his first report card from the big junior high in town, he had a C in one of his classes.
Fear Is Our Response to a Real or Imagined Threat
Fear Exposed. Day one...
Remember the room with the closed door that nobody ever went in? Remember the window you never looked out of after dark? Remember the area of the yard behind the bushes that was surely home to hideous creatures when the sun went down?
Coping with Fear is Not an Option
Fear Exposed. Day two...
One of the responsibilities a good father assumes is to teach his children to face their fears and to push through them. This is true for the Christian and non‐Christian father alike. A mother assumes some of that same responsibility (especially, if she is a single mom) but a father has more of a natural inclination to push his children through whatever is standing in their way.
Divine Jealousy
Faith and Unbelief. Day forty-two...
In a sexually promiscuous culture, such as the one we have here in the U.S., it would seem that jealousy in relationships should be a thing of the past.
God Is Close, Very Close
Faith and Unbelief. Day fifty...
A while back, something went wrong with the database on our server, and I had no access to our website for several hours. Now I clearly remember that day!
Faith Is Not the Tool of Choice to Persuade God
Faith and Unbelief. Day fifty-six...
What do you do if you've just finished off the meal from the drive‐thru only to discover a food particle lodged in your teeth? And you don't have a toothpick, a stick of chewing gum, or a bottle of water in your car.
Unbelief and Faith Don’t Mix
Faith and Unbelief. Day sixty-one...
Sally lost the job she had for twenty years, when the company closed down its local facility. “Well,” Sally told a close friend, “I didn't have a job when God helped me find that one. I guess I don't have to have a job, for Him to help me find the next one!”
Not Just Emotion
The Law and Grace. Day forty-eight...
During His teaching from the mountain, Jesus gives us a lengthy description of a way of life that was previously unknown to man—and only possible through Jesus.
