Give Me That Mountain

Love at a Distance

Day three...

If you've never thought about being intentional with “favor” let me assure you that it works. To protect our children's privacy I won't go into details, but they experience the favor of man on a regular basis. Our children also experience the favor of God, on a regular basis. Sherrel and I are very intentional about praying for our children to have favor with both man and God, because it works. And it will work for your children also.

Love at a Distance

Day seven...

I trained and showed Quarter Horses as a teenager. When I moved back home to Missouri from New York I started riding again. After being out of the saddle for fifteen years my technique had become rusty, and I was having trouble with one of Dad's horses. This gelding was doing some things I didn't like, but I wasn't sure what I should control and what I should just accept.

The Kingdom Is about Life

Fear Exposed. Day thirty-seven...

My wife and I have some acreage west of town we refer to as our chunk of paradise. The land is covered with mature trees, and this beautiful stand of timber is filled with deer and wild turkey. When I get around to it, we'll eventually build a house out there. But for now I use the property as my private gym; I lift rocks and tree limbs instead of lifting weights.

Giving Up Control

Fear Exposed. Day forty-three...

I found a list of phobias online with more than 500 documented entries—from “Ablutophobia: the fear of washing or bathing” to “Xyrophobia: the fear of razors.” The scientific accuracy of this list could certainly be questioned, but it would be safe to draw the conclusion that fear comes in many flavors.

Making the Connection

The Law and Grace. Day thirty-four...

In my early twenties I worked on a construction crew building a new subdivision in central Illinois. (The homes were being built for members of a “New Age” commune. But that is a story for another time.)
