It's a bad plan to ask your spouse to do what he or she has already done. “Honey, would you wash my t‐shirts,” makes you look bad, when your wife filled your drawer yesterday with clean and folded t‐shirts. “Honey, would you trim the roses in the back yard,” makes you look bad, when your husband bloodied up his arms pruning those bushes two days ago.

One of the biggest challenges for any parent is trying to teach children right from wrong, without exasperating them. Getting children to accept some types of instruction is fairly easy: “Nate, remember what happened when you touched the door on the fireplace? Well, the same thing's going to happen if you touch the end of that stick I just pulled your hot dog off of.” But other types of instruction seem to have to be force‐fed: “Suzie, you know we only allow music with lyrics that honor God, or instrumental music, in our house.”
