Promises… Promises…

Day one...

I hadn't been a Christian very long, when my pastor asked me to teach a Sunday school class for seniors. I believe the youngest person in the class was in their late sixties. I had very little experience in relating to older people so I was terrified I might bring up a subject that might offend someone. I didn't think I should talk about sickness, or old age, or any other “senior” subject.

Day two...

“Why does this dessert I made taste funny? It tasted so good over at Sally's.” “Why are we having trouble with money? We are generous, and we always tithe.” “It's just not right that Roberta has cancer. She is such a faithful woman—always helping anyone in need.”

Day three...

Have folks ever made fun of you when you talked about how God had comforted you through a difficult situation? I have. It's as if God is no more than a mind game to them… just some game I play to try to defy reality.

I recently bought a Cracker Jack three‐pack. It tasted as good as I remembered it tasting back when I was a boy. The prizes have changed though—more paper and less plastic.

Giving Up Control

Fear Exposed. Day forty-three...

I found a list of phobias online with more than 500 documented entries—from “Ablutophobia: the fear of washing or bathing” to “Xyrophobia: the fear of razors.” The scientific accuracy of this list could certainly be questioned, but it would be safe to draw the conclusion that fear comes in many flavors.

Designed to Last

Health and Healing. Day two...

When we bought our last car there were still a few thousand miles left on the warranty. I looked for every possible flaw so anything found could be taken care of before the warranty ran out. I've done that on every vehicle I've purchased, as I suppose most people have.
