Give Me That Mountain

Not Just Mind Over Matter

Health and Healing. Day forty-six...

The term “mind over matter” has been diluted to mean little more than mental self‐discipline over our physical bodies. In other words, getting out of bed in the morning is frequently considered as an act of mind over matter.

But mind over matter is also the substance of paranormal phenomena such as psycho kinesis. And some of this stuff gets really weird, like the levitation and/or movement of physical objects through purely non‐physical means.

mind over matter

Teaching on the authority we have in Christ over sickness and disease might sound to you a lot like mind over matter. Yes, the mind is involved, but this is not psychic healing.

I've watched several films of psychic surgeons performing their surgery in the Philippines. And I don't doubt that this kind of thing happens. But I also don't doubt that it's demonic.

Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Pharaoh will demand, ‘Show me a miracle.’ When he does this, say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down in front of Pharaoh, and it will become a serpent.’”
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did what the LORD had commanded them. Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a serpent!
Then Pharaoh called in his own wise men and sorcerers, and these Egyptian magicians did the same thing with their magic. They threw down their staffs, which also became serpents! But then Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs. Pharaoh's heart, however, remained hard. He still refused to listen, just as the LORD had predicted.(Exodus 7:8–13 NLT)

God is the Creator.

Satan, using his (Satan's) own imitations, can only pervert what God has created. Satan cannot create; he can only destroy.

Make no mistake about it, Satan can materially change the physical world with the power that he has. He was the power source that enabled Pharaoh's own wise men and sorcerers to turn their staffs into serpents.

Please don't ever think though, that what Pharaoh's men did by the power of Satan even came close to what Aaron did by the power of God. After all, Aaron's staff swallowed up all the staffs of Pharaoh's men.

But Satan still has formidable power that will devour us if we let it.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8 NKJV).

And while Satan's power can utterly destroy us if we're not paying attention, God intends for us to use whatever Satan brings against us as the resistance that helps us grow strong—much as a weight machine in the gym. Paul understood this concept very well.

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9–10 NKJV)

In order to grow strong, we must grab hold of the resistance that comes against us and handle it just as we would handle the weights in a gym. We will not grow strong if we avoid resistance.

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV)

God will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can handle. But here's the rub: We do have to handle what we're tempted with, or it will destroy us.

So don't be impressed with what man can do without God—those pseudo‐miracles that catch your attention when you hear about them. Oh, they're real—but not real miracles. They're just real attempts by man to meet his own needs without God. And Satan is more than willing to cooperate with man whenever man is trying to avoid God.

Have a good day,
